Copenhagen is the perfect city for a long weekend or extended holiday; renowned as one of Europe’s design capitals, beautifully flat and rich in architectural history, Denmark’s capital really does offer something for everyone. Its hard to know quite where to start, but design is the central theme; shops, both large and small, are packed full of innovative objects both practical and decorative. Some of the brands are household names (in Scandi circles at least) including iittala, Alessi, Arne Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen, Georg Jensen and Hay all providing a platform for lesser known designers and artists whose work is equally stunning. A myriad of independent shops also cater for every taste in fashion, ceramics, art and furniture ensuring you can always find a unique item to bring home.

The best way to explore the city is on a bicycle and these can be hired relatively cheaply; the whole place is geared-up for cyclists and it was a joy to cross-cross the city without having to dodge cars or lorries. The old port provides a raft of restaurants offering a variety of cuisine including locally-sourced seafood. Copenhagen has embraced the foodie culture to the max and new eateries can be found across the city many which have achieved almost instant recognition. Four days is not really long enough to delve deep into the cities culture which is totally dedicated to the wellbeing of its population and I have already vowed to return next Summer. Do your research, book a flight and go now. Awesome place.
